VLADIVOSTOK, Russia, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- U.S. and Russian ships will take part in a joint exercise in which they will simulate liberating a vessel seized by terrorists, a Russian spokesman said.
The U.S. Navy and Russian Navy will conduct "Exercise Pacific Eagle" in late October near the Mariana Islands in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, a Russian Pacific Fleet spokesman said.
The U.S. Navy's guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald, which will take part in the exercise, left the port of Vladivostok Tuesday after a four-day visit.
"The scenario of the upcoming Pacific Eagle anti-terrorism exercises was discussed in detail during the Fitzgerald's visit," Russian Capt. 1st Rank Roman Martov said.
Russia is sending to the exercise Pacific Fleet vessels including the missile cruiser Varyag, Martov said.
