UK: The New Government counter-terrorism strategy published

The UK Government has published a new version of its counter-terrorism strategy, known as CONTEST. The aim of CONTEST is to reduce the risk of terrorism to the UK and its interests overseas, so that people can go about their lives freely and with confidence. The revised version of CONTEST, which replaces a previous version published in 2009, reflects the changing terrorist threat and incorporates new Government policies on counter-terrorism.

As before, CONTEST is based around four strands (known as Pursue, Prevent, Protect and Prepare). The strategy aims to stop terrorist attacks, stop people becoming or supporting terrorists, protect the public and key services, and prepare for the consequences of terrorism to mitigate its impact.
