Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Gregoris Delavekouras deplored on Wednesday the ”delimitation agreement” signed by the occupying regime in Cyprus and Turkey as ”inconsistent with international law”, as CNA reports.
In response to Cyprus exploratory drillings in its Exclusive Economic Zone, Turkey signed on Wednesday an ”agreement” for the delimitation of its continental shelf with the occupying regime in the northern part of Cyprus, under Turkish occupation since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
”This act by Turkey is inconsistent with International law and the UN resolutions. The said agreement is null and void,” Delavekouras noted in a written statement.
On November 15, 1983, the Turkish Cypriot regime, in the island’s northern Turkish occupied areas, declared an Unilateral Declaration od Independence (UDI), which the UN has described as ”legally invalid” and called on all states ”to respect the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and non-alignment of the Republic of Cyprus.
” The UN Security Council also called on all states ”not to recognise any Cypriot state other than the Republic of Cyprus”. Barring Turkey, no other state recognises the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime.
